The biggest names in the retail industry will be heading to Las Vegas this month for four days of market-impacting deal making. The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Global Retail Real Estate Convention hosts thousands of attendees from around the world and JLL’s Dallas Retail team will be there.

Restaurant and retail chains use ICSC to roll out multiple locations quickly. For those representing a tenant, you’re able to meet with multiple landlords and see first-hand potential new locations. Developers for new large scale developments, are able to meet with a multiple groups of potential tenants.

From Monday morning at 8:30 am to time to leave, our team will be hosting meetings with clients and landlords nearly every 30 minutes.

The conference plays a major role in what we’ll be seeing in Dallas-Fort Worth and markets across the US in the near future. There is tremendous value in being face-to-face with decision makers. Having everyone in the same place at the same time helps to expedite deals and get big things accomplished.

What happens at ICSC won’t stay in Vegas. In some cases, we may be able to see the conference bear fruit in markets in as quickly as four to five months.

The conference serves as a barometer for the industry. Thanks in large part to a strong economy, the conference is as busy as it’s been since the recession. This generally correlates to busy retailers and owners.

Retailers are smart. They already have a pretty strong understanding of what is happening in markets across the US, but when we meet, we are able to dive deeper, discuss what’s happening locally, serve as a sounding board, fortify their thoughts and help finalize their decisions.

As the old saying goes: retail follows rooftops and Dallas-Fort Worth has seen more than its share of growth over the past several years. The job additions and low cost of living has given us a population with a greater amount of disposable income. As these new jobs and people continue to move to places like DFW, so too will retailers.
